Dinse P.C., a law firm in downtown Burlington, Vermont, has an opening for a full-time immigration paralegal. This role assists with case planning, development, and management, performs legal research, interviews clients, gathers facts and retrieves information, drafts and analyzes legal documents, and collects, complies and utilizes technical information to assist with filing immigration documentation and case information with various governmental organizations.


Immigration paralegals directly report to the Immigration Case Manager and the attorneys managing the projects assigned. This role is non-exempt and eligible for the firm’s hybrid work policy.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop knowledge of the firm, various immigration case types and client processes.
  • Prepare and file petitions with government agencies, including document gathering, document review, case drafting, and case filing.
  • Engage with clients via email and phone under the direction of the Immigration Case Manager or attorney and provide guidance to clients regarding case processing.
  • Evaluate cases, relay concerns, and proactively escalate to the Immigration Case Manager or attorney.
  • Prepare forms, letters, documents, and correspondence for attorney review; adapt resources for casework which deviates from templates.
  • Manage the status of all filed applications and petitions and finalize documents after attorney review.
  • Use document and data management systems to prepare, monitor, and record all aspects of client casework.
  • Conduct research to obtain information such as background on a company or industry, current wages, processing procedures, standard processing times, etc.
  • Initiate contact with government agencies to obtain necessary information and alert supervisors regarding potential process delays/problems.
  • Apply proofreading and editing skills to case-writing content and other materials.
  • Work independently and manage multiple writing projects simultaneously, maintain ownership for deadlines and work.


Candidates experienced in immigration processes and procedures are encouraged to apply. A bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification is required, but candidates without a degree or certificate will be considered if they have 2 years of experience performing the specific responsibilities noted above.

Salary : $55,000 - $75,000
