Position Description

Job Title: Preschool Teacher Aide

Job Status: Part-Time, Non- Exempt

Reporting Functions: Lead Teacher, Principal

Job Function: A Preschool teacher aide is responsible for the safety and supervision of all preschool students. The teacher aide ensures the involvement and creativity of each student in the class in a respectful and calm manner. The teacher aide must work cooperatively with all team members to implement the class plans in accordance with the designated class topic. The teacher aide must follow verbal and written directions provided by the Lead teacher. The teacher aide is expected to demonstrate teachable moments to reinforce the students' educational experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist Lead Teacher with student activities. This includes, but not limited to, working with students during academic lessons, circle time, story time, outdoor lessons, all special classes, bathroom breaks, snack, lunch, arrival and dismissal procedures, and disciplinary discussions.

• Must be able to interact with students in physical exercise to help with proper, safe, and ergonomic techniques.

• Interact with students in sing-along, hand motions, dancing, stretching, and other activities involving bending and reaching.

• Ability to read to a large group of students.

• Engage in learning and play activities per the Lead Teacher's lesson plans.

• Share input with Lead Teacher for parent/teacher communication to enhance the student's learning experience.

• Inform school administrators of any special needs or concerns about a student.

• Educate and reinforce Holy Family Preschool rules of behavior and safety guidelines.

• Acquire knowledge of the curriculum and implement the curriculum in the classroom with and without direct supervision.

• Maintain a clean, tidy, and sanitary classroom environment. Keep classroom shelves, counters, storage areas, and bathrooms orderly and free of clutter.

• Provide supervision for children at all times.

• Any other duties assigned by the Lead Teacher and/or Principal.

Educational Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Preschool CDA preferred.

• Certificate of Completion for "Bloodborne Pathogens"

• Completion of CPR class.

Completion of additional classes/tutorials in the designated time frame.

Other Requirements:

• Possess an understanding of child development, emotional well-being, and the skills necessary to relate to the student being taught.

• Able to maintain a high level of energy. Ability to respond calmly to overwhelming and difficult situations and age-appropriate behavior.

• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, a high degree of credibility, integrity, and self-confidence is essential.

• Ability to utilize discretion in communication with families and children in the Lead Teacher's absence.

• Ability to be alert to the needs of children as individuals and as a group.

• Maintain clear communication with the Lead Teacher about student interactions/concerns each day.

Flexibility in the event of changes to schedule, environment, student behaviors, planned activities and lessons.

PRIOR TO INTERVIEW: Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (No less than 1 year old.) As well as attendance at the online Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit on the floor or low chair, walk, stand (up to 1 hour at a time), bend, crouch, kneel, crawl, and sit on the floor with young children. Must be able to talk and hear, both in person and by telephone. Use of hands to operate standard office equipment; with occasional reaching and lifting to 30 pounds. Level of physical fitness that allows for keeping pace with the activity level of young children throughout the school day.

Working Conditions: Normal preschool classroom setting, Part-time, 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M., every Tuesday and Thursday. May be required to assist with special duties and work outside the normal school day to attend school-related events.
