Job Overview
St. Demetrius Church in Gallitzin, under the Diocese of Altoona Johnstown has a full-time Maintenance/General Laborer opening with a 40-hour work week.
Reporting directly to the Parish Pastor, the maintenance/general laborer position provides support to include the following:
Responsibilities
- Ensuring that maintenance tasks are performed in an efficient and timely manner
- Conducting general, mechanical, electrical and plumbing repairs
- Inspecting all facilities for needed repairs
- Implementing preventative activities within the scheduled time frame
- Working with contractors and overseeing projects
- Assisting with parish deliveries
- Providing snow removal by means of plowing and shoveling and salt application to include all associated parking lots, building entrances and side walks
- Mowing and landscaping of all applicable areas of the parish property
- Managing and replenishing associated supply inventory such as gas, oil, seed, etc.
- Providing basic maintenance of equipment and ensuring annual or as-needed maintenance by designated vendors
- Assisting with set up and take down of parish facilities for events
- Attending scheduled meetings with pastor as necessary
- Being available to Pastor and Parish Administrative Assistant via cell phone during business hours and after, when necessary
- Engaging in heavy lifting and working at heights
- Other duties as assigned by Pastor
Qualifications Required:
- Supportive of the mission of the Catholic Church
- Able to satisfactorily complete background checks and training applicable to diocesan requirements
- General knowledge of building, construction, electrical and plumbing fields
- Ability to climb ladders, run equipment, and work at heights relevant to this position
- One year of general laborer experience
- Ability to perform tasks in an efficient and timely manner
- Possess a current drivers’ license
- Able to perform tasks in an efficient and timely manner while working independently
