Associate Hospital Chaplain
Non-Exempt – Part-time (20 hours per week)
LOCATION: Virtua Voorhees Hospital - Voorhees, Samaritan Hospice, Voorhees and Elmwood Hills Health Care Center - Blackwood
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work collaboratively with Catholic Hospital Chaplain in cluster of hospitals/healthcare facilities assigned to coordinate and deliver pastoral care.
- Work with hospital staff to become aware of patients who request a Catholic Chaplain, visit them while hospitalized and provide them the appropriate pastoral visit.
- Coordinate the work for the Priest Chaplain to complete his responsibilities of sacramental service.
- Coordinate the visits by lay Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) and visitors from local parishes.
- In the absence of the Chaplain for that cluster, will coordinate the needs of patients in consultation with the local parishes to respond to emergencies and the appropriate request for sacraments.
- Be the liaison between the Hospital Catholic Chaplain and the local parishes to inform them of parishioners who wish them notified of their hospitalization.
- Be the liaison with the hospital Administration in order to secure feedback and support for the Catholic Chaplaincy program.
- Compile and submit monthly pastorla care visitation activity reports to the Diocesan Director of Hospital Chaplaincy.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training or related hospital chaplaincy experience and training. (CPE credential preferred).
- Minimum one year of experience in a Hospital Chaplain role.
- Demonstrated skills in planning and organizing.
- Understanding and ability to articulate Catholic Healthcare Ethical and Religious Directive.
- Excellent oral communication skills are required.
- Bilingual preferred (English/ Spanish), but not required.
- The person should exhibit a positive attitude, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have the ability to work collaboratively with priest chaplains, hospital administrators, local Pastors, volunteers, and a variety of community partners.
