SUMMARY
The Bishop Lynch Learning Specialist is responsible for promoting students’ academic success and personal development by implementing research-based strategies to support all students. Reporting to the Director of Teaching and Learning, the Learning Specialist establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, teachers, staff, and parents, through meaningful, supportive and frequent communication regarding all students, with a special emphasis on students with learning differences. A Learning Specialist is responsible for the implementation of the goals of Catholic education as outlined in The Holy See’s Teaching on Catholic Schools (Archbishop Michael Miller):

JOB EXPECTATIONS Qualified candidates will be able to perform the following duties at an exemplary level:
Receive and review psycho-educational evaluations for potential students, incoming students and existing students with diagnosed learning differences.- Use information obtained from the psycho-educational evaluation and classroom observations to develop written recommendations to improve student engagement and learning; consult with curriculum personnel, administrators, counselors, and teachers to help accommodate classroom practices for students.
- Host accommodations meetings with incoming students and parents to review the Student Accommodations Plan; communicate with current students and parents as learning needs change or testing is updated.
- Collaborate with other school personnel to create and maintain a continuum of services to support academic goals for students (guidance, health and wellness, etc.).
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date data of student academic sessions, student goals progress and notes.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, teachers and administrators
- Participate in staff professional development activities.
- Coach teachers as needed on accommodations for students with unique learning needs.
- Collaborate with the school's college advisors to transition student support plans to the college and university setting.
- Observe students in the classroom.
- Meet students with accommodation plans periodically to build executive function skills.
- Coordinate the Learning Center daily testing schedule.
- Submit Learning Center attendance logs quarterly.
- Communicate, facilitate, and supervise extended time testing for Fall and Spring exams.
- Communicate with Dallas ISD personnel regarding special services provided for qualifying students.
- Design and lead professional development opportunities for staff to improve student engagement and learning.
- Participate in outside professional development activities to improve skills related to job responsibilities.
- Remain current on ethical and professional standards, as well as all applicable federal, state, and local special education laws, guidelines and procedures.
- Manage all aspects of accommodations for PSAT/SAT (College Board) and ACT testing for students with learning plans, including the application process, communication, proctoring as needed and written appeals.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal for Academics and the Director of Teaching and Learning.

- Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience
PREFERRED
Master's degree in special education or related field- Experience working with students with learning differences, in special education or as a learning specialist
- Working knowledge of Universal Design for Learning
- Catholic high school teaching experience
