Summary
The Bishop Lynch High School Assistant Band Director will assist the Band Director in overseeing the program of marching band and instrumental music for the school. The Assistant Band Director will work with the Band Director to supervise and coordinate the instrumental activities to support each participant in achieving a higher level of personal skill, in gaining an enhanced appreciation for music, and an increased level of self-esteem through rehearsals and performances. Reporting to the Director of Fine Arts, the Assistant Band Director will plan activities with the Band Director to achieve district, region, and state recognition.
An Assistant Band Director is responsible for the implementation of the goals of Catholic education as outlined in The Holy See’s Teaching on Catholic Schools (Archbishop Michael Miller):

Responsibilities Include:
Assist with high school instrumental performers, such as marching band, orchestra, concert band, soloists, and ensembles.- Implement performance and academic requirements as assigned by the Band Director.
- Review student eligibility with the Band Director at each grading period.
- Provide support at band performances at extracurricular events, including but not limited to concerts, football games, pep rallies, graduation events, parades.
- Accompany and supervise students during local and long-distance travel.
- Attend band booster meetings and events and support band booster club activities as needed.
- Complete all required reports, records, and documents in a timely manner.
- Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within the department including but not limited to uniforms, instruments, supplies. Support the Band Director with the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment.
- Maintain the music library. Order materials as needed or directed by the Band Director.
- Support and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Assist the Band Director in assessing student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Establish and maintain open, consistent, and professional communication with parents, students, band staff, and the Director of Fine Arts.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Serve as a positive role model for students and support the school’s mission statement.
- Provide instructional support to students in the BL Band during the school year, including the summer band camp (3 weeks prior to the start of school).
- Attend all performances including football games, concerts, and competitions related to band.
- Assist with supplemental music instruction for students in the band, including small group instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Band Director or the Director of Fine Arts.
Working Conditions:
Frequent district and occasional statewide travel.- Prolonged and irregular hours.
- Outdoor and indoor work; exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather.
Qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree.- 12 college credit hours in education, preferred.
- Teaching and band directing experience; knowledge of the overall operation of instrumental music program.
- Strong knowledge of marching band needs.
- Commitment to being a supportive, respectful, and energetic colleague.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior while maintaining a professional manner.
- Must possess clear communication skills, strong work ethic, and excellent organizational skills.
