POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily custodial and maintenance operations of the school, church, rectory, and office facilities. This position ensures that all buildings and grounds are clean, safe, and well-maintained. The Maintenance Supervisor directly supervises custodial staff, manages facilitrelated projects, and coordinates scheduled maintenance and emergency-related repairs. Additionally, this role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills, along with the ability to respond to facility-related emergencies and work collaboratively with parish and school staff.
Position Details:
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director of Facilities
On-Call: 24/7 for emergencies
Pay: $38,000 -$50.000 (dependent on experience)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilities & Custodial Operations:
Plan and schedule daily custodial and maintenance activities for the school, church, rectory, and office.
Ensure efficient operation and maintenance of custodial equipment (vacuums, shampooers, extractors, auto scrubbers, buffers, etc.).
Develop and implement cleaning procedures and safety protocols for custodial staff.
Perform and oversee routine safety checks and preventative maintenance for campus equipment and systems.
Assist in minor repairs and maintenance of parish facilities.
Personnel Management:
Supervise and coordinate the custodial team, including task assignments and performance evaluations.
Develop and revise custodial task assignments to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
Provide training and professional development for custodial staff.
Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of custodial personnel.
Perform custodial duties when staff is unavailable.
Project & Vendor Coordination:
Work with the Director of Facilities to plan and oversee summer cleaning and maintenance programs.
Manage scheduled repairs and service calls for campus equipment and systems.
Oversee gym floor refinishing projects in conjunction with the Inter-City Catholic League.
Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to maintain custodial supply inventory and place authorized orders.
Assist with custodial supply bidding and product selection.
Review and approve supplier invoices for custodial purchases.
Systems & Emergency Response:
Adjust and monitor HVAC schedules, lighting programs, school bells, and clock systems.
Respond to emergency calls for fire, security, and vandalism.
Assist with evacuation drills and security system checks.
Coordinate and assist in snow removal from walkways and sidewalks.
Professionalism & Leadership:
Represent the parish professionally in all interactions with staff, students, parents, and the community.
Enforce established parish and school policies, regulations, and safety protocols.
Maintain and secure confidential records and reports.
Occasionally work beyond a standard 40-hour workweek when required.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED required; additional technical training preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience in custodial maintenance and personnel supervision.
Strong knowledge of building and facilities operations, including custodial and maintenance best practices.
Technical & Maintenance Skills:
Experience with boilers, hot water heaters, generators, security systems, and fire alarm systems.
Knowledge of sound and lighting systems is a plus.
Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
Responsible for maintaining clean, polished, and safe flooring surfaces throughout the facility. This includes stripping, waxing, buffing, and maintaining various types of floors, such as tile, vinyl, and hardwood. must use proper cleaning agents, equipment, and techniques to ensure high-quality results while following safety protocols.

Ability to supervise and train staff effectively.

Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Works well under pressure and handles multiple priorities.
Communication & Computer Skills:
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and work ticket systems.
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, and maintenance instructions.
Mathematical & Reasoning Ability:
Ability to calculate figures, proportions, and percentages.
Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to apply common sense and sound judgment in problem-solving.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift heavy objects.
Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights when necessary.
Ability to work in varied temperatures and weather conditions.
