JOB TITLE : Pastoral Care Minister
REPORTS TO : Pastor
STATUS : Full-Time (40 hours)]
WORK SCHEDULE : Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 5 pm, Friday 8 am to 12 pm
POSITION SUMMARY : Works in collaboration with the Pastor to respond to the pastoral care needs of the parish, including both the Anglo and the Hispanic Communities. The ideal candidate should be bilingual in English and Spanish.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Support the mission of St. Joseph Parish, Wautoma, Wisconsin.
Collaborate with Pastor and other staff members while assessing pastoral needs.
Assist the Pastor in pastoral care, sacramental preparation, evangelization, and other spiritual needs and services.
Coordinate pastoral care for parish members.
Hospital Visitation
Care Facility Visitation
Home Bound Visitation
Primary parish funeral preparation coordinator.
Initial Family Meeting and funeral planning
Vigil Service as requested.
Assist at Funeral Mass
Committal Services as needed.
Help to recruit, support, and supervise volunteers for care ministry and outreach.
Oversee / provide continuing education opportunities and spiritual enrichment for care ministers on an annual basis.
Meet with parish members who are looking for support and direction making referrals, as needed, for counseling.
Assess with the pastoral needs of the parish - as assigned by Pastor.
Coordinate programs and outreach as needed, to address the spiritual and corporal needs of the parish.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :
Knowledge
Ordained Deacon, Consecrated Religious, or Layperson with Pastoral Ministry or Religious Studies background (or equivalency); experience relating to parishioners and sharing of the faith;
Previous ministerial experience desirable; EMMAUS certified or willingness to work towards certification;
Practicing Catholic in good standing.
An understanding of Church structure, knowledge of religion and loyalty to the parish and community are essential ingredients in relationships with the pastor, staff, parishioners and community members.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of theology which can be translated into practical pastoral and liturgical situations.
Skills and Abilities
Trains, motivates and sustains pastoral staff volunteers in pastoral ministry in both the Anglo and Hispanic Communities.
Evidence of effective "bridge building" between families and the parish, especially those in need of evangelization, catechesis, and the Sacraments of the Church.
Maintains confidentiality.
Works well with pastor, staff, committees, and individual parishioners.
Works independently within authority-limits and expertise. Requires individual initiative in recognition of problems and solutions.
Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the community, clergy, parishioners, staff, and support agencies. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and people who are grieving.
