Description
The Staff Accountant performs professional accounting work, posting accounts payable invoices, payments processing, recording cash receipts, payroll journal entry preparation, bank account reconciliations, reconciling general ledger accounts, compiling and verifying financial data and reports, as well as providing overall support to the shared service parishes and schools served by the office of Diocesan Shared Account Services (DSAS).
The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. General functions:
• Process and post daily cash receipts
• Process and post accounts payable invoices
• Support the monthly preparation of the Financial Library
• Update schedules and dashboard reports
• Maintain electronic filing requirements following policy
• Prepare and post-month-end closing journal entries
• Prepare and process all Balance Sheet reconciliations monthly
Other Duties & Responsibilities
• Assist in the review of financial statements
• Identify risks and process improvement opportunities, and suggest solutions for improvements
• Perform special projects as assigned
• Exhibit good customer service acumen

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field such as business administration, finance, and accounting, and a minimum of 1-3 years of general accounting experience required.
This position requires strong experience with Excel techniques supporting general Bookkeeping tasks and customer service. Important to successfully executing this position requires attention to detail, data entry and scanning proficiency, and proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Excel and Word along with other Cloud Based Software applications—knowledge of accounting software, including QuickBooks Online and other cloud-based software applications, a plus.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed mostly in an office setting. Employee may be required to work more than 40 hours including occasional evenings and weekends; performs extensive computer work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar. Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (15 pounds).
