Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Events Department System Technician (Lighting) will function under the direction of the President, Principal, Vice-Principal and Events Department Director of Xavier College Preparatory. This person will be involved with the daily functioning of the events department, as well as support all event lighting systems on campus. They will perform a variety of technical work, generally help to maintain theatrical and facility equipment, assist the Fine Arts and Maintenance faculty, Campus facility sub-contractors, and students involved with XCP events. Requires adapting work schedule to accommodate after school, evening and weekend needs & events.

  • Work with the Events Department Director to give input and follow plans related to large-scale setups.
  • Assist with the technical set-up and operation of XCP events as needed. This includes

events such as mass, auctions, fashion shows, school dances and other various campus events.

  • Assist with general storage and backstage organization.
  • Assist XCP faculty, staff and administration as needed in areas of technical support as it relates to events and venues that the events department is responsible for.
  • Abide by and enforce rules of respect and behavior on campus according to the guidelines set by XCP.
  • Requires adapting work schedule to accommodate after-school, evening and weekend needs & events.
  • Skill, Knowledge and Abilities :
  • Ability to coordinate with Scenic Designer to generate paperwork for performances.
  • Knowledge of construction, and design
  • Basic proficiency on Audio and Lighting equipment.
  • Understanding of and experience with general electrical and mechanical systems and specifically, that of theatrical equipment and installations.
  • Understanding of the dangers of facility equipment and adhesion to safety procedures.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Ability to work as a team member, employing skills of communication, cooperation, and problem solving, and a general positive attitude
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to take initiative when work needs to be done, to work as effectively on one's own as with others while maintaining focus and motivation.
  • General computer skills.
  • Previous experience as Stagehand, A / V operator, Carpenter and Theatrical Designer.
  • Requires adapting work schedule to accommodate after-school, evening and weekend needs & events.
  • Qualifications :
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with power tools and other construction equipment (ex : Table saw, drills, router, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work safely at heights, including on catwalks.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Working knowledge of theatrical and event safety best practices.
  • Requires adapting work schedule to accommodate after-school, evening and weekend needs & events.
