POSITION TITLE : Music Teacher
Department : Catholic Schools Grade : PS - 8th Grade
Supervisor : Principal
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
This position of Music Instructor (teacher) will exclusively oversee the music curriculum for the Preschool through 8th-grade students. This includes student retreats, scheduled school masses, monthly Sunday school masses. Under the supervision of the principal, the Music Instructor is a person in good canonical standing with the Roman Catholic Church; the Music Instructor is a person of faith who strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education; is in agreement with the Diocesan and MHT school mission statements and philosophies; assumes responsibility for the leadership and management of the grades or classes assigned; develops and implements an instructional program according to the needs of the students and the established Diocesan Curriculum Standards; maintains detailed and accurate records as required by the school; shows positive school-community relationships; continues professional development to remain current with religious and academic certifications; performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and assigned by the principal.
Using the Diocesan Curriculum for Music as the guidelines for the Preschool through 8th-grade levels, the Music Instructor duties would include but are not limited to the following :
Instructional Leader :
Plans, evaluate, and adjust the on-site instructional programs to adhere to the diocesan curriculum standards to the students' needs
Promotes an effective teaching / learning environment that encourages the implementation of developmental and age-appropriate programs
Develops and posts the daily schedule and weekly lesson plans
Reviews individual student assessments for growth and development
Assumes responsibility for their professional growth and development
Follows established policies, practices, and procedures of the Diocese of Phoenix
Uses effective decision techniques
Interprets and uses research to guide action plans
Recognizes and fosters leadership ability among staff
Identifies, address, and implement needed change
Demonstrates the ability to be a team player
Teaching / Learning :
Integrates Catholic principles throughout the curriculum
Develops and implements a balanced curriculum providing for proper articulation
Creates an environment that encourages teachers to facilitate child-centered learning
Makes diocesan curriculum standard guides available
Teaches or assists teachers in the classroom
Coordinates initiate and instruct students in music theory, choir, and instruments : guitar, keyboards, recorders, drums, Glockenspiels, Boomhackors, bell choir, and drama productions, schoolwide and by grade level.
Plans, prepares, practices, and develops the weekly school mass and monthly school mass. Prepares worship aides weekly and for Sunday school mass.
Presents subject matter to students using various teaching methods and techniques, familiar with using 'best practices.
Prepares administers daily assigned work, grades examinations as necessary and in-class participation. Coordinates with colleague's report card publication. Will use electronic grade book, communicate with parents via face to face conference as necessary, and use of school communications system posting announcements, newsletter, and sending email.
Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts and production of events.
Will produce Advent Program, Passion Play with junior high students. During the school year, produce plays and dramatic presentations with primary level students, collaborating with classroom teachers. End of year concert with the school using voice, drama, instruments. This includes practice and adjusting school schedules for rehearsal times.
Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and assigned by the principal. This can include substituting for other teachers, working as a resource, supervising students during special events, recess / lunch duties, or as needed.
Communication :
Initiates and facilitates open communication within the school community.
Articulates the school programs and policies for the parish, and greater community
Maintains regular dialogue with the school principal and attends and actively participates in meetings as scheduled
Establishes a cooperative and friendly relationship with colleagues
Maintains an interest in the local civic community and fosters school participation when possible and appropriate
Schedules regular meetings and has communication with the faculty
Professional Growth :
Directs and provides for professional growth to ensure effective teaching methodologies
Receives training on the "Safe Environment" and "Policy on Sexual Misconduct
Keeps informed of current instructional practices through professional reading and educational opportunities
Participates in professional activities and joins appropriate professional organizations
Attends diocesan sponsored in-services
Attends and actively participates in school faculty meetings and in-services
Actively participates in the process of continuous school improvement
Maintains personal, professional development records
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required :
Must demonstrate personal self-discipline, be adaptable and flexible in routine and unexpected situations
Must use good judgment in daily encounters
Must use verbal and written language correctly
Must demonstrate an appropriate sense of humor
Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of good teaching techniques and child psychology
Must maintain proper grooming and dress at all times as stated in the faculty handbook
Minimum Qualification :
Must be willing to make a public Profession of Faith if Catholic and if non -Catholic willing to support Catholic teachings and philosophy
Must hold a Bachelor's Degree
Certified by the Arizona State Department of Education as a teacher and meets applicable NCA requirements desired
Received Safe Environment Training and signed the Code of Conduct
