Under the supervision of the Administration team, the resource teacher is a person of faith who strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education; assumes responsibility for the leadership and management of the Resource Program, providing curriculum support systems for students, teachers, and administrators, develops and implements the instructional program according to the needs of the students, maintains detailed and accurate records, establishes positive school-community relationships and serves as a liaison between School Districts and SVDP regarding Special Education; continued professional development to remain current with religious and academic certifications; performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

Strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education:

  • Embraces and models the Catholic philosophy of education.

  • Provides opportunities for faith development of students in the classroom to prepare them for life in today’s Church and society.
  • Can articulate and give evidence of Christian living by the example of their lives.

Assumes responsibility for the leadership and management of the Resource Program,

  • Provides a positive learning environment.
  • Organizes the classroom to facilitate student learning.
  • Supervises and provides for the safety, welfare, and care of the students while they are in school.
  • Works toward the creation of a Catholic/Christian community within the classroom and the entire school community.
  • Teaches in accordance with diocesan and local policies as well as appropriate state laws.
  • Shows respect for individuals and fairness in dealing with students and parents.
  • Possess knowledge of basic behavior and learning disabilities, as well as how to approach and instruct students with varying abilities/behaviors.
  • Flexibility in teaching methods to adapt quickly to changing student needs.
  • Creating and providing timelines, calendars and schedules that meet the needs of each student

Provide Curriculum Support systems for Students, Teachers and Administration

  • Assisting in the selection and production of instructional materials and appropriate supplementary supplies
  • Assist teachers and administration with creation of in-class intervention support systems for all students as well as students with learning disabilities/special needs.
  • Assist and collaborate with public school districts and out-sourced intervention personnel.
  • Assist with continual implementation and growth of the Resource Program .
  • Conduct Pull-out and Push-in interventions when possible and  in collaboration with teachers
  • Providing training/coaching to school personnel as needed. 

 

 

Develops, implements and adapts an instructional program according to the needs of the students 

 

  • Conducts initial and periodic observations of students in mainstream classrooms.
  • Determines level of student achievement with use of assessments-including but not limited to school-wide assessments (MAP, I-ready), Kaufman Test,  Educational Achievement, WIDA etc.
  • Evaluates and determines students learning capacity and adapts student specific lesson plans using appropriate intervention teaching strategies 
  • Adapts class management skills to needs of  students within varying abilities, grade levels
  • Uses on-hand and outside additional resources to promote learning experiences for all students.
  • Uses a variety of instructional strategies, incorporating technology into instruction when appropriate.
  • Maintains daily intervention records for each student
  • Maintains organization of records of each student.
  • Able to create or learn how to create a Student Support Plan (SSP), ensure it is followed, and/or updated as needed.
  • Refers students for evaluation and/or consultation in collaboration with administration, public school district, and parents.

Evaluates student progress effectively: 

  • Creates goals for each student at their ability level, with communication of these goals with parents and respective staff members.
  • Uses a variety of ongoing assessments to continually assess student needs and goals met.
  • Able to interpret and assess data on (IEPs, MAP, CUMULATIVE RECORDS), and other assessments used.
  • Provides prompt constructive feedback on student performance to student, teacher, admin. 
  • Maintains proper records and/or trimester reporting system as required by administration
  • Meets deadlines with assessments, official classroom reports, and statistics as required by administration and district. 
  • Provides an analysis of student performance data and analysis of program effectiveness.

Establishes positive school-community relationships and serve as a Liaison with Cartwright School district and SVDP :

  • Maintains cooperative relations with all stakeholders.
  • Promotes respectful and  positive school relationships.
  • Facilitates/ leads/attends meetings with teachers/parents/administration/other parties as needed. 
  • Collaborates with public school districts regarding IEPs and possible special needs evaluation..
  • Consistent communication / collaboration with teachers and  school personnel regarding student progress and students in need of intervention.
  • Attends and actively participates in school faculty meetings and in-services.

Continued professional development to remain current with religious and academic certifications:

  • Keeps informed of current instructional practices through professional reading and educational opportunities.
  • Researches how to assist students with best intervention strategies
  • Attends diocesan sponsored in-services.
  • Actively participates in the school improvement process
  • Maintains personal & professional development records.

Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the administration.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Must demonstrate personal self-discipline, be adaptable and flexible in routine and unexpected situations.
  • Must be able to take initiative with minimal supervision/direction
  • Must use good judgment in daily encounters.
  • Must be able to abide by levels of confidentiality
  • Must use verbal and written language correctly.
  • Must demonstrate an appropriate sense of humor.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of good teaching techniques and child psychology.
  • Must maintain appropriate grooming and dress at all times as stated in the faculty handbook.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • Preference given to Catholic teacher
  • Must be willing to make a public Profession of Faith if Catholic and if non – Catholic willing to support Catholic teachings and philosophy.
  • Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in teaching or Sped.
  • Must be certified by the Arizona State Department of Education as a teacher and meets applicable NCA requirements.  Substitute certification is acceptable until a teacher certification is obtained.
  • Received Safe Environment Training and signed the Code of Conduct.
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • At least 2 years classroom or resource experience.
