What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Dean position at Diocese of Providence?
As the schools instructional leader, the Academic Dean is responsible for the implementation of curriculum, teaching and learning, modeling teacher professional growth, analyzing student data for performance improvement, and monitoring student performance and progress. The Academic Dean serves under the authority and direct supervision of the Principal.RESPONSIBILITIES takes responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning. is well-versed in the schools curriculum, supports its development, and conducts regular reviews. ensures that the curriculum is consistently aligned with the schools mission, with Gospel values, relevant standards, 21st century skills, and is implemented through effective instruction.
supports the selection process and seeks the Principals approval for the use of learning materials in all media: textbooks, trade books, movies, computer programs, etc. works with the faculty to develop and coordinate an educational program that provides for the various needs and abilities of all students. effectively interprets and uses student performance data to improve instruction and learning. is involved in the professional evaluation and performance improvement program at the school to advance professional growth and excellence in teaching.
supports expectations for instructional strategies, differentiation of instruction, and classroom management. regularly conducts classroom walkthroughs in collaboration with the School Principal to observe the taught curriculum and offer coaching or assistance to teachers. monitors students progress and reviews and revises programs in place to help those not performing as expected and also develops new strategies that will continue to engage and challenge those students exceeding expectations. provides Tier III interventions and specialized instruction as needed.
collaborates effectively with the Title II coordinator in order to select PD and training to support teaching and learning. oversees operations of internal resource programs including: Social-Emotional Learning Interventions, reading and Literacy Interventions, and progress Monitoring. supports families through the IEP process with their LEA, and attends annual IEP meetings to advocate for student needs. spearheads the leadership development program for students, faculty and staff.QUALIFICATIONSRelevant teaching experience.
Preference for experience in administration and special education (i.e., Orton-Gillingham or Wilson certification), and a Masters in Education.
