Instructional Aide Responsibilities
- Supplement and reinforce the work of the classroom teacher
- Under the direction of the classroom teacher, grade student work, enter data into the gradebook, make copies, procure needed supplies and prepare instructional materials
- Under the direction of the classroom teacher, lead one-on-one or small group learning activities
- Assist the classroom teacher in monitoring student behavior and helping maintain discipline in the classroom
- Under the direction of the classroom teacher, provide instructional push-in and pull-out intervention support
- Supervise students during recess, lunch, emergency drills, activities, outside recreation, field trips, and pick-up and drop-off
- Substitute for classroom teachers when needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Supervising, observing and interacting with students in accordance with school policies
- Assisting students with homework and other school assignments
- Providing snacks
- Organizing and leading spiritual, social, and age-appropriate indoor and outdoor play activities
- Redirecting student behaviors not consistent with school philosophy and implementing the program discipline system when necessary
- Maintaining a safe and clean environment
- Completing and maintaining accurate and comprehensive student attendance records, payroll time sheets, incident reports and all other compliance paperwork
- Developing and maintaining a positive working relationship with other program staff and school faculty and personnel
- Working cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis
- Demonstrating professional, ethical, and responsible behavior at all times
- Enjoy being with students, fostering their spiritual, academic, social, emotional and physical development through the duties outlined above
- Perform other duties as assigned
Religious Qualifications
- Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
- Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy
- 18 years or older
- Proof of high school diploma or GED
- Proof of completion of 6 or more Early Childhood Education (ECE) Units OR proof of completion of at least 2 units of ECE and enrollment in current ECE class, working towards completion of 6 units
- Submit a cover letter, resume and copy of transcripts
- Clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for Community Care Licensing is a condition of employment)
- Experience teaching in a preschool classroom
- Positive professional references and recommendations
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Proof of immunizations
- Proof of completed Mandated Reporter training for Child Care Providers
- Cleared TB test to work in Licensed Child Care Facility
To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the preschool aide must:
- Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the aide will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
- Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
- Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces.
- Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending.
- Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class.
- Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms.
