GENERAL SUMMARY : The Music Director is responsible for leading and coordinating all aspects of the music ministry at Our Lady Star of the Sea. This role involves planning, directing, and overseeing music for liturgical celebrations and requires the ability to lead and inspire both volunteer and professional musicians. A deep understanding of the Roman Catholic liturgy is required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Select and deliver appropriate music for all Liturgical celebrations including Sunday Masses, Holy Days, Sacraments, Weddings, Funerals and other special liturgies.
- Ensure all liturgies requiring music are appropriately staffed and carefully ensure the integrity of the liturgy.
- Collaborate with the Pastor and Parish Ministry leaders in preparing liturgies for parish events.
- Recruit, train and supervise cantors, choir members and instrumentalists.
- Conduct rehearsals and provide ongoing education and support to music ministry participants.
- Lead the parish choir and other music ensembles during liturgical celebrations. Perform as a musician as needed.
- Manage the music budget, including the procurement of music materials and equipment.
- Schedule and coordinate music ministry activities and events.
- Oversee Audio Visual special requests as directed by the Bishop's Office (i.e. Bishop's Annual Stewardship Appeal Weekend).
- Administer and coordinate the maintenance and repair of musical instruments and sound equipment as needed.
- Ensure that all licensing, copyright regulations, and subscriptions (on-line and physical) are coordinated and followed.
- Arrange for gifted volunteer musicians and / or paid instrumentalists for special liturgies including Christmas, Holy Week and other parish celebrations.
- Participate in appropriate diocesan meetings, staff meetings, programs and activities.
- Foster a sense of community within the music ministry and encourage participation from parishioners.
- Promote the spiritual and musical growth of choir members, musicians and the parish community.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
