Chemistry Patent Agent
Direct Counsel is seeking a Chemistry Patent Agent to join a leading Patent Development & Strategy group at a top law firm. This position is available in Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Palo Alto, or Seattle.
Key Responsibilities:- Patent Prosecution & Strategy – Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications.
- Due Diligence & Portfolio Management – Conduct patentability analyses, prior art searches, and freedom-to-operate assessments.
- Client Counseling – Work closely with inventors, scientists, and corporate clients to develop IP strategies.
- Legal Research & Drafting – Prepare opinions on patent validity, infringement risks, and competitive landscapes.
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- Registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Minimum 2 years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm setting.
- Strong technical background in organic, inorganic, or industrial chemistry is preferred.
- Excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills.
- Hybrid work model – Regular in-office presence with remote flexibility.
- Salary range: $120,000 - $225,000 per year, based on experience and market location.
