Direct Counsel is partnering with an Am Law 100 firm seeking an Employee Benefits Attorney with 1–8 years of experience to join its Health Benefits Practice, part of the broader Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice Group. This full-time position is available on either a partner track or non-partner track, depending on the candidate’s experience and goals.
Position Highlights:

Advise clients across the health benefits ecosystem, including PBMs, TPAs, HRA vendors, insurance providers, and others.

Handle matters involving ERISA, HIPAA, the ACA, the No Surprises Act, mental health parity, health savings accounts, wellness programs, and more.

Translate complex legal and regulatory issues into clear, client-friendly guidance.

Draft and review contracts, plan documents, and compliance communications.

Collaborate with a team that values precision, clarity, and a passion for the evolving health benefits landscape.
Qualifications:

JD from an ABA-accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing.

Experience advising service providers or plan sponsors in the health and welfare space preferred.

Strong research, writing, and communication skills required.

Demonstrated interest in health benefits law and compliance work.
Compensation:

Chicago-based salary range: $225,000–$390,000, commensurate with experience.

Full benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), adoption assistance, and dependent backup care.
