Direct Counsel is seeking a Mid-Level Employment Associate to join a leading law firm’s Employment & Labor group in Short Hills, NJ, or New York, NY. This role is ideal for an employment attorney with 3-4 years of experience looking to gain hands-on experience in litigation, advisory work, and transactional employment matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Litigation Management – Assist in handling class action and single-plaintiff employment cases, including wage & hour claims, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, misclassification, wrongful termination, and breach of contract.
- Employment Law Counseling – Advise clients on employment policies, restrictive covenants, compensation plans, and leave/accommodations issues (FMLA, ADA).
- Drafting & Negotiation – Draft and negotiate employment, severance, and related agreements.
- Corporate Transactions – Conduct employment due diligence and advise on labor and employment aspects of M&A and other corporate deals.
- Regulatory Compliance – Provide guidance on federal and state employment laws, including wage & hour regulations and anti-discrimination laws.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the New Jersey and/or New York Bar.
- 3-4 years of experience in employment law, including litigation, advice & counsel, and transactional work.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal employment laws and experience handling cases before state/federal courts and administrative agencies.
- Experience in class and collective action defense is preferred.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple matters effectively.
Work Environment & Benefits:
