Transportation & Technology Public Affairs Advisor
Location: Washington, D.C.
Job Description:
Direct Counsel is seeking a Public Affairs Advisor to join a national law firm with a strong Public Policy & Regulation (PP&R) Transportation Team. This position is ideal for candidates with 3-5 years of federal policy experience, particularly in transportation, infrastructure, and/or technology issues, along with experience in managing policy and legislative matters. The role will primarily involve assisting in the representation of clients in federal policy, legislative, regulatory, and advocacy matters related to transportation and technology.
Core responsibilities include:

Assist in managing daily client engagement across transportation, infrastructure, and technology sectors, ranging from established companies to innovative start-ups.

Help lead the creation and execution of complex legislative, regulatory, and political strategies to achieve federal policy objectives.

Research, draft, and edit various policy documents, including one-pagers, hearing memos, talking points, issue briefs, congressional testimony, legislative tracking documents, and appropriations requests.

Arrange, coordinate, and conduct meetings with Members of Congress, congressional staff, and other government officials, both independently and alongside other Transportation Team members.

Build and maintain relationships with key policymakers, government staffers, and influential federal stakeholders.

Actively monitor and report on transportation, infrastructure, and technology policy developments, analyzing their relevance to clients’ strategies.

Organize fly-in events, including preparing materials, managing participants, and coordinating logistics.

Track Capitol Hill outreach, preparing agendas and materials for regular client communications and calls.

Assist clients in preparing for and responding to Congressional hearings, federal agency rulemaking, and other legislative and regulatory activities.

Take on special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:

3-5 years of public policy experience within the federal government, or in a policy or government relations role focused on transportation, infrastructure, or technology.

Strong writing skills, with the ability to analyze and synthesize complex legislative and regulatory issues.

Deep understanding of the House and Senate legislative processes and the federal regulatory landscape.

Strong interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with a wide range of personalities in governmental and political settings.

Capacity to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Excellent organizational skills.

High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or higher.
This position may be filled in the District of Columbia. In accordance with applicable Pay Transparency Laws, the pay range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000. This range may not be applicable to other locations. An individual’s actual compensation will depend on their qualifications and experience.
