The Direct Employers Institute (DEI) Summer Internship program provides work-based readiness training for high school and college students through an intensive 12-week summer internship program at our DEI office. Interns will participate in valuable work-based learning opportunities, skill development, and workforce training opportunities focused around project and program management. Interns will plan and execute the entire lifecycle of STEM YES! 2025.
STEM YES! is a comprehensive summer program made up of 2, 2-week sessions for Central Indiana students interested in exploring STEM & Business careers in a work-based environment. During each session, students develop competencies in teamwork, business planning, presentation skills, social etiquette, soft skills and career and college preparation. All this, while exploring and learning about the various fields that STEM has to offer through, job shadows, research, product development, information technology, and many more.
Over the course of 12 weeks, interns will experience a real work environment, working independently and collaboratively to implement projects including, but not limited to:
- logistics and planning for STEM YES!
- networking with local corporations and organizations
- procurement of materials and funds for STEM YES!
- management and leadership of student groups during STEM YES!
- fund development for DEI
- marketing to engage other students to participate in DEI programs

The Ideal Candidate Should:
- Be a student attending High School or College/University
- Be located in Indiana, Indianapolis preferred, for the summer
- Be able to commit 20-40 hours/week
- Be able to commute to an in-person environment
