The First Five program will provide trauma-informed care to support children and families by strengthening and enhancing services in early learning centers. First Five has an overarching goal of helping early learning center teachers create a trauma-informed culture in their classrooms. Through classroom observation, First Five identifies children needing behavioral support. There are two pathways of service depending on the level of complexity and risk of expulsion that a child is experiencing.

Position Summary :

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) understands, articulates and implements best practices related to early childhood learning, developmental milestones, and behavioral interventions for children, and strength-based family assessments. The SME will be an active participant of the IDT process and participate in all phases of the ongoing development of First Five. The SME provides input and insight to sensitive topics during the IDT staffings by applying substantial knowledge, application, and practice to how themes manifest in consumers' families. IDT staffing occurs at different frequencies throughout the service line and at critical junctures of the case. The SME will work in collaboration with the IDT Facilitator. The SME will assess a child's needs, their family history, and current situation / records to determine service planning, identify options, and arrive at a shared decision on the best approach to ensure the success of the child in the classroom, mitigate future poor behavior, and provide assistance to the family. The SME is charged with ensuring that decisions are made with the most current evidence-based interventions and strategies related to risk assessments and safety planning.
