Arborist/ Climber

Job Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

• Tree Climbing and Rigging:
• Safely ascend trees using industry standard climbing techniques and approved equipment, ropes, harnesses, and climbing spikes.
• Rig and set up tree with ropes, pulleys, and rigging systems to control tree branches during pruning and removal.

• Tree Pruning and Trimming:
• Prune and trim trees to improve their health, aesthetics, and safety.
• Use proper pruning techniques to remove dead or diseased branches and shape the tree canopy.

• Tree Removal:
• Safely dismantle and remove trees that are dead, dying, hazardous, or no longer desired.
• Use controlled techniques to lower branches and tree sections to the ground without causing damage.

• Risk Assessment:
• Evaluate the structural integrity and stability of trees to identify potential hazards.
• Determine the best approach for tree care and removal to minimize risk.

• Equipment Use:
• Operate chainsaws, power tools, chipper and other tree care equipment while on jobsite.
• Ensure proper maintenance and safety checks on equipment before and after use.

• Safety Compliance:
• Adhere to strict safety protocols and industry standards for tree climbing and care.
• Inspect and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) and climbing gear.

• Communication and Teamwork:
• Work closely with groundsmen, crew members, and supervisors to coordinate tasks and ensure safety.
• Communicate effectively while in the tree canopy to execute tasks efficiently.

• Customer Interaction:
• Interact with clients and property owners, explaining tree care recommendations and addressing their concerns.

• Training and Development:
• Stay current with industry best practices, climbing techniques, and safety procedures.
• Seek opportunities for professional development and certification.

Qualifications:

• Certification as an Arborist (e.g., Maine State Arborist Certification, ISA Certified Arborist) is preferred.
• Extensive experience in tree climbing and arboricultural work.
• Proficiency in various climbing techniques, including single rope technique (SRT) and double rope technique (DRT).
• Strong physical fitness and agility to perform tree work at heights.
• In-depth knowledge of tree biology, species identification, and pruning techniques.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to assess tree health and stability.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required.

Salary commensurate with experience.
