Job Overview: A Ground Operations Technician on our team is an essential member of the team responsible for providing support and assistance to arborists and tree care professionals in the maintenance, care, and management of trees. Ground Operations Technician perform various tasks to ensure the safety, efficiency, and success of tree care operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety and Equipment Setup:
- Assist in setting up and maintaining a safe work zone by placing cones, signs, and barriers.
- Help with the setup and maintenance of equipment such as chipper machines, chainsaws, and ropes.
- Tree Debris Removal:
- Gather and remove tree debris, branches, and wood chips generated during tree trimming or removal operations.
- Operate wood chippers and other equipment to process tree debris into manageable pieces.
- Tree Limb Handling:
- Assist arborists in safely lowering and controlling branches using ropes and rigging techniques.
- Collect and stack branches and logs for disposal or recycling.
- Clean-Up and Site Restoration:
- Thoroughly clean the work area, including raking and sweeping to ensure no debris remains.
- Replant grass or vegetation, repair landscape features, and restore the site to its original condition.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Assist in routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
- Report any equipment issues or malfunctions to the crew leader or supervisor.
- Safety and Communication:
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Communicate effectively with other crew members to coordinate tasks and ensure everyone's safety.
- Traffic Control:
- Direct traffic and pedestrians away from work zones to ensure safety during tree care operations.
- Monitor and control access to the work area as needed.
- Assist Climbing Arborists:
- Assist arborists or tree climbers in various tasks, such as passing equipment, ropes, and tools.
- Ensure safety by maintaining clear communication and following established procedures.
- Training and Development:
- Continuously learn and improve skills related to tree care and groundsman responsibilities.
- Seek opportunities for advancement within the tree care industry.
Qualifications:
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and work collaboratively within a team.
- Basic knowledge of tree care equipment and tools is an advantage.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced arborists and crew leaders.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
