DSP (Direct Support Professional) 1:1

Disability Resource Network, Inc. is a not for profit with locations in Derby, CT and Bridgeport, CT. DRN operates DDS day programs as well as alternative education programs. We are looking to hire 1:1 Direct Care Staff at our Bridgeport location.

The 1:1 Direct Support Professional is responsible for one to one care for a specific individual with developmental disabilities and may also have other medical, mental health, or physical conditions. The 1:1 will be responsible for implementing the individual's schedule, maintaining the individual's safety, helping the individual navigate his environment, and encouraging the individual to participate in activities. The 1:1 will create lessons to implement with the individual. The 1:1 will be responsible for implementing and tracking any special protocols for the 1:1 such as behavioral plans, dietary plans, etc.

All 1:1's require arm's length supervision at all times and may require assistance with eating, toileting, navigating their environment, etc.

The position is primarily Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm for a total of 35 hours per week.

Duties include:

• Implement daily scheduled activities for client
• Record keeping and documentation in the form of progress notes, reports, etc.
• Monitoring client interaction with other people
• Toileting and personal care assistance
• Assisting client out in the community
• Monitoring seizure activity and implementing seizure protocol (if necessary)
• Display enthusiasm and motivational energy
• Supervising and assisting with mealtimes
• Assistance navigating environment
• Implementing PMT restrains, if necessary
• Taking client out into the community for scheduled outings

Requirements for Hire:

• Minimum 2 years experience working with adults with disabilities
• Minimum 2 years experience providing personal care assistance
• Valid driver's license
• Clean criminal background and motor vehicle history (all employees undergo a background check prior to hire and annually)
• Minimum high school diploma/GED
• Minimum 18 years old
• Must be proficient in speaking, reading and writing in the English language
• Physical requirements: Must be able to keep up with the pace of the schedule

• As of 9/27/2021, per Governor Lamont's Executive order 13B, all state agency provider new hires must have either the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID19 vaccine with their second dose scheduled or the single dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

This position requires CPR certification and PMT certification. Please let us know if you have that certification. If not, DRN will send you for the certifications.
