Job Description:

Special Attendant Needed for Austin area!

Position Summary: The Special Attendant it provides attendant care services on an as-needed basis and is not meant to be permanent provider for any one client but to assist with as many clients as needed.


Tasks:

  • Ensure client’s safety in their living environment.
  • General household work only related to the care of the client.
  • Provide activities of daily living such as:

1. Bathing: laying out supplies, bed bathing and drying, tub bathing and drying, sponge bathing and drying, drawing water in sink, basin, tub, assisting in/out of tub/shower, and standby assistance for safety.

2. Hygiene I – Shaving/Oral Care: laying out supplies, shaving, brushing teeth, flossing/waterpic, shaving underarms/legs, per client request, and caring for nails.

3. Hygiene II – Routine Hair and Skin Maintenance: laying out supplies, washing hair, washing hands and face, drying hair, combing/brushing hair, applying makeup, and applying over-the-counter (OTC) lotion to skin.

4. Toileting: changing incontinent briefs, , assisting with toileting hygiene; includes use of toilet paper and washing hands, assisting with female hygiene needs, assisting with clothing during toileting, preparing toileting supplies and equipment, assisting with use of urinal, assisting on/off bedpan, and standby assistance.

5. Dressing: dressing client, undressing client, and laying out clothes.

6. Shopping (only related to the client): preparing shopping list, pick up medication, putting away purchases, and going to purchase/pickup items.

7. Meal preparation (only related to the client): cooking full meals, planning meals, grinding/pureeing food; helping prepare meals, cutting client’s food for eating, warming up prepared food, and serving food.

8. Feeding: spoon feeding, bottle feeding, standby assistance, assistance with using eating/drinking utensils and adaptive devices.

9. Exercise: accompanying client to walk, positioning client in bed/chair, standby assistance with ambulation, or simple recreation/leisure activities.

10. Transfer and Ambulation: assistance with wheelchair ambulation, assistance with ambulation/using steps, positioning client in bed/chair, standby assistance with ambulation, assisting with leg brace and prostheses, transfers between stationary positions.

11. Cleaning (only related to the client ): Changing bed linens/making bed, cleaning refrigerator and stove, cleaning bedroom, carrying out trash for pickup, cleaning up after personal care tasks, cleaning durable medical equipment, dusting, emptying and cleaning bedside commode, cleaning bathroom (i.e. tub/shower, floor, etc.), cleaning floors of client’s living areas, and cleaning stovetop, counter, washing dishes.

12. Laundry (only related to the client): washing of clothes, hanging clothes to dry, using Laundromat services, gathering and sorting clothes, loading/unloading machines in the residence, and folding and putting away clothes.

Home safety check / fall prevention.

  • Use the CallWyse system to enter time worked or submit time sheets to the office weekly and in a timely fashion.
  • Complete documentation of tasks as assigned.
  • Under no circumstances is attendant is to exceed the scope of the duties described herein.
  • Attend workshops, training and in-service sessions as required.
  • Travel required for client visits/hourly care and community activities as necessary.
  • Ensures all notes are submitted on a timely fashion.
  • Observe confidentiality policies at all times.
  • Comply with federal, state, & company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Report to office any concerns.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills/Attributes:

  • Able to work independently.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Must be able to follow verbal instructions to complete task.
  • Willingness to work with health care professionals, clients, families, and the general public.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills, including active listening skills such as giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
  • Written and verbal communication skills are required to communicate effectively as appropriate to the needs of the audience.
  • Able to read, write and comprehend English; must be able to communicate efficiently in English.

Experience and Education:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must have experience or training that demonstrates the ability to provide attendant care.
  • Must have at least six (6) months experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Must not have any convictions for certain crimes described in stated criminal legislation relating to caring for the aged and disabled.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to clients homes for visits/hourly care and to daily activities.
  • Refer to attached Employee Physical Profile for additional requirements.
