Description
Role: Drives agency vehicle for the purpose of transporting clients and DSGP personnel to and from assigned activities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with appropriate personnel to transport clients and staff to and from community based activities and day to day agency activities and arrive at destinations on schedule.
- Assist passengers on and off the bus when help is needed. Interact with passengers professionally at all times.
- Report to the appropriate Program Team member, Case Manager or Wellness Liasion any occurrences that affect the immediate well being of persons served.
- Visually inspect agency vehicle(s) before beginning the assigned route and sanitize vehicles after use.
- Report any mechanical issues with agency vehicles such as brakes, steering, or other issues.
- Ensure vehicle is always fueled and ready for use.
- Keep mileage and repair records up to date.
- Must adhere to all training requirements as deemed necessary for this position.
Expectations:
- Prompt, consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Must follow all rules and laws pertaining to driving a non-commercial vehicle.
- Adhere to scheduled hours.
- Meet or exceed agency standards of necessary supports to ensure safety, happiness, and well being of persons served.
- Understand and support both the mission statement of Disability Supports as evidenced by an unfailing positive attitude in all actions on behalf of persons served.
- Timeliness in completion of assigned tasks and necessary training.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Must be at least 25 years of age. Prior direct care experience preferred but not required. Transportation experience of passengers preferred.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and persons served. Must demonstrate compassion for individuals with disabilities.
Other Skills: Must have a valid drivers license and an accident free driving record for the past three years. Valid CDL preferred but not required. Basic mathematical and grammar skills required.
Physical/Environmental: Must be able to lift, push and/or pull a minimum of 35 pounds, stand for periods of time, bend, push wheelchairs, and provide physical intervention on a regular basis. Noise level may vary, depending upon duty assigned.
Due to the potential intimate nature of care and physical proximity involved with some of those receiving HCBS funded I/DD services through Disability Supports, and in order to promote a safe work environment for both the caregiver and those for whom we care, you may, from time-to-time, be required to wear PPE, (Personal Protective Equipment). If PPE is required, Disability Supports will provide it.
