Disabled Persons Action Organization has an immediate opening for the position of Assistant Day Habilitation Program Coordinator. Listed below is a brief job description that details the duties, responsibilities and the minimum requirements for the position. The hours of this position are 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday through Friday (hours may vary approximately an hour each way depending on the needs of the program) to total a 35-hour work week.
Job Description:
Assists the Program Coordinator with executing all activities, activity planning and ensuring adequate staffing for the needs of the program. Will provide direct care to individuals with developmental disabilities by assisting with goals, outcomes and activities as stated on each individualized service plan to meet the individuals’ needs and interests. You will supervise and monitor individuals and program staff, prepare and submit required records and related program documents. Also, ensure that the established goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with prescribed priorities, time and funding limitations. Independent judgement will be exercised in the course of carrying out overall responsibilities.
Education/Experience Requirements:
1. Possession of a high school diploma OR equivalency with two (2) years of experience working with the developmentally disabled or a similar field.
2. Must possess knowledge of principles and practices of the supervision of children and adults with developmental disabilities.
3. Good written, verbal and organization skills.
4. Candidate may work alone at times, and must be able to complete all physical job duties that are required which can include, but are not limited to: bathing, dressing, grooming, lifting/pulling/pushing, must be physically capable of transferring, assisting with transfers and lifting person(s) who require physical assistance, must be able to reach and bend as they assist participants with physical activities, must be able to transport individuals while operating agency vehicles.
5. Valid Driver License and ability to transport individuals in agency vehicles. Must have a favorable driving record. An abstract of the prospective employees' driving record will be obtained by D.P.A.O. if issued in New York State. If the driver license is issued out of state, the prospective employee will be required to provide their abstract from the issuing state and the agency will reimburse any fee for the transaction.

Paid Time Off: The agency's paid time off package includes vacation time after six months, 2 weeks of vacation after one year, 3 weeks of vacation after 5 years and 4 weeks of vacation after 10 years. Also, four personal days per year, 12 sick days per year, and 12 holidays off with pay. If required to work on a holiday based on the needs of the program, the holiday can be saved and used within the month.
DSP Microcredential: Employees of the agency are eligible to enroll in the DSP1 Microcredential offered through Jefferson Community College, which is funded through a grant program by OPWDD. Grant funding for this initiative covers the cost of tuition, books, course materials and National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) credentialing for students and educational supports.Successful completion will lead to: college credentials, one or more national certifications, college credit toward a certificate, associate, or bachelor’s degree and a $750 incentive.
