What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional-Lewis Co Free Standing Respite House, HWR position at Disabled Persons Action Organization, Inc.?
Disabled Persons Action Organization is looking for a part time Direct Support Professional to join our Free Standing Respite program in Lowville.
The days/hours of the position will vary, but will include evenings/nights during the weekdays and weekends. Typical shifts include 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10pm-6am. Other shifts may be required to meet the needs of the program. The prospective employee will work between 10 and 25 hours weekly.
Free Standing Respite House: The free standing respite program is for a developmentally disabled person of any age. An individual may stay for as little as an hour, overnight, for the weekend, a week, etc. Each stay may not be more than 30 consecutive days. The house is staffed by experienced people who try to make the individual's stay as much fun, as relaxing, and as much like home as possible. Guest are accepted by appointment only unless an emergency arises. Shifts include evenings and weekends, day and overnight hours.
Required Experience, Education and Training:
- Prospective employees must possess a high school diploma or equivalency, with one (1) year of experience with the developmentally disabled, or similar field. (Preferred)
- Knowledge: Principles and practices or supervision of developmentally disabled children and adults. (Preferred)
- License: Possession of a valid New York State motor vehicle operator's license. Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Physically able to work direct-care as you will be working alone at times.
