POSITION OVERVIEW:
Disc Medicine has an exciting opportunity in our Finance team for an experienced, hands-on Director of Accounting. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Finance, Corporate Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing accounting operations and financial reporting for our company. This person must be willing to roll up their sleeves, be team oriented, and is comfortable with wearing many hats.
As Director of Accounting, you will develop and maintain accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. You will manage and oversee a multitude of accounting activities, including general ledger preparation, monthly and quarterly closes, financial reporting, procure to pay, audit and tax preparation. This role will be instrumental in providing internal financial accounting guidance and you will partner with cross functional leaders, including external partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, to meet the Company's external reporting obligations and internal reporting needs.
- Manage the quarterly review and annual audit processes including serving as a key contact with the Company's external and internal auditors.
- Manage the monthly and quarterly close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial statements, including initiatives to shorten the close timeline and enhance internal reporting.
- Review and approve journal entries, monthly account reconciliations, contracts, payments, etc.
- Co-manage SOX program with Director of Financial Reporting and in collaboration with the Company's third-party service provider, including risk assessment, design assessment, walkthroughs, documentation, testing of internal controls and ITGCs in FloQast.
- Assist with the design and documentation of standard operating procedures and monitor for improvement opportunities. Assist with project-based work to identify and effect business process improvements across the organization and maintain an effective control environment.
- Manage tax reporting, including statutory and legal entity requirements for both U.S. and international locations.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of the Company's tax filings for federal, state, VAT/ GST and payroll tax obligations.
- Assist with the selection and implementation of new and upgraded systems to support financial reporting and improve internal control and business process documentation.
- Build and foster the growth and development of a dynamic, high performing team capable of thriving in an ever-changing, high growth environment.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or finance.
- Current Certified Public Accountant license required. Big 4 Public Accounting experience preferred.
- 10 years' experience in accounting including a minimum of 4 years of experience in a public company subject to Section 404(b) of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX). Working knowledge of drug development process within the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, including clinical trial accruals is required. Commercial launch experience within the biotech/pharmaceutical industry preferred.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functional teams.
- Experience with NetSuite, Concur, and FloQast (required) experience with Shareworks, Prendio, and ADP WorkForce Now (preferred).
- Strong attention to detail, decision-making, problem-solving, project management, and organizational skills.
- Strong technical accounting foundation with understanding of US GAAP, SEC regulations, and SOX compliance requirements.
