As Operations Manager at Discover Valdez, you will be providing inspired leadership for the operation of our organization and Visitors Center. This involves engagement in policy, strategy, and operational systems. You will also spearhead our recruiting, when necessary, and help promote a company culture that is team and performance focused.
Successful candidates should have a bachelor's degree in operations management or a related field (or equivalent experience) and have prior experience in management or leadership positions. An understanding of event planning and financial management is also a plus.
Reports To: Executive Director
Operations Manager Responsibilities:
- Provide inspired leadership for the organization.
- Manage all operations at the Visitors Center, including contract services oversight, payroll support, IT management, payroll, materials upkeep, signage, and customer support.
- Oversee the management team by providing them with support and continuous feedback.
- Head Center communications via email, phone calls, Valdezalaska.org, and other communications platforms.
- Process AR as needed; communicate with vendors / AP as needed.
- Reporting, budgeting, and auditing operations financially.
- Develop, implement, and review operational policies and procedures.
- Plan for short and long-term operational goals.
- Help promote a company culture that encourages high morale and top performance.
- Lead recruitment when necessary; Create and optimize staff training.
- Oversee operational budgeting, reporting, planning, and auditing.
- Upkeep legal and regulatory documents; monitor compliance; enforce regulatory and safety standards.
- Work with the ED to support Discover Valdez’s goals, values, mission, and vision.
- Oversee all guide distributions and bulk mailings; Deploy all newsletters.
- Maintain tourism statistics and prepare a monthly report.
- Support the ED in success of consumer and trade shows; plan media engagement strategy.
- Support a successful yearly visitors guide with input and data analysis.
- Oversee facility upkeep and maintenance, order supplies.
- Support building of alliances and partnerships with other organizations; chair staff meetings.
- Support ED in important policy, planning, and strategy decisions.
- Attend regular management meetings and board meetings as requested.
- Be familiar with Valdez and understand the community and logistical aspects of the town.
- Support of ED as needed; Support Managers as needed; other tasks as requested.

Operations Manager Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in operations management or related field preferred.

- Will train the right person.
Details:
This position is a regular, FTE position. The position is to be scheduled during general hours reflect office hours -- 9 to 5, Monday through Friday. This position is located primarily at the physical job location at our Visitor Center. Work during our events and some local and out-of-town travel events may be required. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Availability of on-call duty for after-hours emergencies is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is generally performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Should have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up product.
- Required to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance consistent with federal, state, and local standards.
