Responsibilities
EHR System Utilization:
- Accurately input patient demographics, medical history, and vital signs into the EHR system.
- Update patient charts with relevant clinical information.
- Maintain data integrity and confidentiality by following HIPAA regulations.
- Review medical records to identify specific information, such as diagnoses, procedures, and medications.
- Abstract relevant data from charts and enter it into the EHR system.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to improve clinical documentation practices.
- Work with healthcare providers to ensure complete and accurate documentation.
- Contribute to the development of documentation templates and guidelines.
- Learn and utilize various eClinicalWorks functionalities, including:
- Patient scheduling and check-in
- Electronic prescribing
- Clinical documentation
- Reporting and analytics
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the EHR system.
- Analyze data to identify trends and potential areas for improvement.
- Assist in developing and implementing solutions to address identified issues.
When not actively engaged in EHR tasks, interns may be assigned to support other administrative functions, such as:
- Credentialing: Assisting with the process of verifying and documenting healthcare providers' qualifications and licenses.
- Billing: Contributing to the accurate and timely billing of healthcare services, including coding and claims submission.
- Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Health Information Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA regulations.
- Experience with eClinicalWorks is required.
