What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School EC Teacher Assistant position at Discovery Charter School?
This is part time position with the following hours: 8:30 am - 1 pm Mondays through Thursdays
The Teacher Assistant is primarily responsible for supporting the classroom teacher, with daily duties and responsibilities including:
- Support the teacher to plan and execute instruction
- Assist students, individually or in groups, during instruction to reinforce the concepts
- Help to maintain classroom order, set up materials and equipment, organize the room, and manage student behavior
- Observe student performance and provide the teacher with feedback
- Assist with the grading of homework and tests
- Help to prepare and supervise classroom activities such as field trips
- Provide assistance to students with special needs with classwork
- Assist with record keeping - attendance, or grades
- Perform other administrative tasks of copying or filing documents
- Collect data on IEP goals
- Monitor students while on job sites, school base, community based or competitive job sites
- Follow instruction under the leadership of the teacher

The right person for this position will be highly flexible, dedicated, energetic, able to work well both individually and in groups, have strong communication skills (written and verbal), have a passion for children, and be able to think creatively out-of-the-box.
- An NC teaching license with special education endorsement
- Must be a strong communicator, organized, a team player, and strong collaborator
- Must be tech-savvy or open to learning new technologies including virtual reality, 3D printing, using e-readers, teaching remotely, etc.
- Must be a lifelong learner
- Must have a passion for students
- A minimum of 3 years of experience is preferred but not required
