What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at Discovery Clubhouse?
General Overview
As a Summer Camp Counselor you will encourage growth and development through play, plan and prepare daily discussions and activities focusing on the weekly theme, and plan and prepare educational aspects to enhance field trips. You will Foster imagination, nurture relationships, build cooperative relationships with parents, use positive reinforcement techniques, help the children in your care build positive relationships, and help them grow physically, academically, socially, and emotionally. You will be overseeing various field trips and off site activities for up to 25 children, with additional staff support, for ages 5 years (children who have completed Kindergarten) through 12 years old. Summer camp Starts on May 27th. and ends August 8th.
The job position would start between April 28th and May 19th
Know How
A Summer Camp Counselor must possess good communication and organizational skills. A Summer Camp Counselor must have the ability to maintain control of an area even when distracted by noise or activity, and work with a diverse group of people. A Summer Camp Counselor also must possess:
CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training. (obtainable during onboarding)
Food Handlers Permit (obtainable during onboarding)
Ability to pass a background check
Be able to drive a company vehicle
Daily field trips include splash pads, parks for organized sports, museums, local hikes, City Rec-centers for swimming, along with many more including arcades, bowling, laser tag etc.
The expectations for this role include coming to work every day with a positive attitude, being a team player who fosters a culture of teamwork, and having a genuine love for children. You should demonstrate a willingness to grow and improve, set a good example in terms of promptness, manners, language, and health, and show respect for the facility and trip destinations. Additionally, you should be passionate about helping the children in your care and their families, possess effective communication and problem-solving skills, and be a self-starter. It is important to maintain a positive attitude in your interactions with other staff and supervisors, avoiding gossip, and to attend staff meetings and training sessions. Finally, strong leadership skills are also expected.
