Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Apheresis Tech/ Certified Phlebotomist will perform phlebotomy, assist with apheresis, and provide direct care to paid, healthy donors undergoing blood and/or tissue collections in an outpatient setting. The Apheresis Tech/ Certified Phlebotomist contributes to our mission by utilizing phlebotomy and administrative skills in support of the Discovery Donor Clinic program.

Position Qualifications (Education, Skills, Experience):

• Must be a licensed Phlebotomist via DPH, NPA, or ASCP
• High school diploma/GED or higher education
• 1 or more years of phlebotomy experience required
• Must have current BLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED) certification
• Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and compliance
• Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Excel and Word.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform venipunctures and blood collection, donor/patient recruitment & retention, donor/patient database management, donor/patient screening, medical histories, vital signs, and bone marrow assistance.
• Provide donor education as it relates to specific collection procedures ensuring the sustained reliability and safety of the donor base, this includes thorough explanation on collections.
• Manage donor/patient reactions along with consulting with Registered Nurse(s) or co-workers.
• Maintain safety and cleanliness of the Clinical Division. Work independently and consult with coworkers in a professional manner as needed.
• Assist RN with apheresis collections, including set up, prime and tear down of apheresis circuit along with monitoring donor comfort during procedure.
• Assist MD and/or NP with bone marrow collections.
• Initiate, perform, and complete donor collection procedures according to specified policies and standard operating procedures.
• Follow established process flow to ensure customer orders are fulfilled and shipped timely.
• Perform and document pertinent assessments to establish donor eligibility and qualifications.
• Match and place clinical research subjects with each study as needed.
• Screen donors via phone and in person; conduct medical history assessments.
• Work cooperatively with other staff members and assists others in their task completion.
• Accurately enter data into the computer system on an ongoing basis.

Location and work hours:

• This position Is onsite at our Alameda, CA Donor Clinic.
• 6:30am - 5:00pm / 4 - 10 hour shifts.
• Rotating Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays off each month.
