POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant performs routine clinical and administrative duties under the direct supervision of a CMO or Registered Nurses at Discovery Point Retreat and its affiliates.
Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative Duties (May include, but not limited to):
- Using computer applications
- Answering telephones
- Greeting patients
- Updating and filing patient medical records
- Coding and filling out insurance forms
- Arranging for patient admissions and laboratory services
- Handling correspondence
Clinical Duties (May include, but not limited to):
- Taking medical histories
- Explaining treatment procedures to patients
- Preparing patients for examination
- Assisting the physician(s) and RN(s) during exams and assessments
- Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
- Performing basic laboratory test
- Medical assistants are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease in the facility and often explain the physician’s instructions
- Performing aseptic procedures
- Taking vital signs
- Observing and reporting patient’s signs or symptoms
- Administering basic first aid
- Operating office medical equipment
- Maintains safety of the physical environment.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Independently solve problems and follow through.
- Organize and function independently in an office environment.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
- Required to maintain certifications up to date:
(CPR, PCI/Aggression, HIPAA, HIV/AIDS, Infection Control)

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
- Graduation from a state-approved/accredited Medical Nurse program and/or college or university.
- Bilingual is preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of Joint Commission standards within the Department. Demonstrates Proficiency in Verbal and written Communication Skills.
- Complete TB testing upon being hired
- Experience in the field of chemical dependency/substance abuse/psychiatric setting or human services field preferred
- Knowledge of State and Federal Statutes Regarding Patient Confidentiality Laws.
