Pay: $16 an hour
Summer Instructor: Our summer program starts June 5th and we are having training a few weeks before this time. Whether you're just looking for a job for the summer or would like to continue with us into the fall, Discovery is a fun environment to work with kids!!
Approximate Hours: We are open this summer from 7:30 am - 6:00 pm, but hours are flexible. Whether you prefer full days, just mornings, or just afternoons, we can be flexible with schedules.

Position Summary:
The Discovery Instructor, is responsible for delivering activity-based learning and play instruction to students using the Discovery experiential learning modules. Instructors are committed to providing exceptional student experiences for children ages 5 through 12 through professionalism, that is highly interactive, creative, flexible, and fun.
Instructors will help students rotate between science, art, stem lab, and library time for hands-on creative play activities. And to keep the energy high, instructors will supervise game time, gymnasium, and playground.
Discovery Instructors build students’ confidence and self-esteem through consistent, positive interactions from instructional materials based on Discovery core values. The Instructor is fundamental to the unique and distinctive experiential learning activities at the Discovery program.
Role:
· Engage students through Discovery curriculum, using prescribed applied learning principles.
· Actively encourage, motivate, and interact with students throughout their activities.
· Assist students with project based learning and play activities while providing positive, encouraging feedback.
· Maintain student engagement and utilize best practices to manage student behaviors that optimizes creativity and a positive environment.
· Communicate student needs to center director.
· Assist in keeping designated activity rooms to be clean, hygienic, and safe environments.
· Assist the Center Director in other tasks including administrative assistance, curriculum preparation, or other duties as assigned.

Expertise: Instructors must be passionate about working with children and have strong communication skills to encourage children to express themselves in learning and play activities. Instructors must be willing to successfully complete training and to support the Discovery mission and core values.
Engaging: Instructors must interact well with students and be able to instruct students clearly and concisely. Instructors should be able to inspire students to succeed, establish a fun learning environment, and consistently demonstrate enthusiasm for the various project activities involved at the Center.
Professional: Instructors must interact with parents, students, and co-workers in a friendly but professional manner at all times and establish a high level of confidence and program value with Discovery families.
Tasks Performed:
· Instruct students on science, technology, and art project activities in a learning center environment.
· Move easily from one student to another and assist students on their learning activities.
· Monitor student behavior and intervene when appropriate to address any behavioral concerns or redirect attention back to project activities.
· Be familiar with each student in their respective group and engage the students in a positive, creative, and fun manner.
· Adapt instructional and curriculum materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
· Prepare students for future grades by encouraging them to explore new learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
· Provide exceptional customer service with parents and students to ensure that students are enjoying their experience and parents feel supported and heard.
· Monitor and assess current self-performance to make improvements; take corrective actions in order to become a better instructor.
· Participate in training and development sessions to improve instruction practices or learn new instruction techniques.
· Reports to Center Director, Assistant Center Director, and/or Lead Instructors to receive instruction/work.
· Communicate clearly and concisely to convey information effectively to team members and superiors to ensure the center is running smoothly.
· Assist in keeping the learning and play environments clean, hygienic, and safe for students.
