What are the responsibilities and job description for the Backend Engineer position at discz?
What You’ll Do
- Work with founders, design and iOS engineers to bring product ideas to life
- Design, build, and maintain scalable APIs and backend services that power our core platform
- Maintain and optimize infrastructure to scale as our user base grows
- Participate in technical architecture discussions, and set engineering excellence standards that will shape the engineering org for years to come
- Engage in our app / slack to gather feedback, resolve bugs and maintain a world class experience for our users
- 3 years of experience building backend systems at scale
- Technical excellence: can confidently architect a solution, work through complex technical challenges and collaborate with other teammates to deliver something from zero to production
- Product sense: Ability to reason through trade-offs between eng complexity, product scope, and quality to build quickly but maintain world class feel
- Versatility: Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to different technical situations that arise by learning new skills, solving complex problems, taking on different hats etc.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Passion: You thrive in fast paced environments, and love taking ownership to drive projects from ideation, to coding and then production at a lightning pace
- Proficiency in Python (experience with Django preferred)
- Experience with AWS specifically ECS, CDK, RDS, S3
- Deep understanding of infrastructure concepts including queuing systems, database architecture, caching, edge networks, container orchestration, etc.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD
- Cares about improving developer experience
- Understanding of social media platforms and content recommendation systems
- Passion for engineering that extends past your 9-5 job
