QUALIFICATION AND DUTIES OF THE BUS ASSISTANT
POSITION: BUS ASSISTANT
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of Safety Restraint Equipment and Techniques for transporting children;
- Practice and techniques in handling behavioral problems of students:
- Safe Work Practices.
- Ability to: Communicate with children of all age groups; Lift moderate amounts (40-60 pounds)
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of work.
REPORTS TO: Principal and Transportation Coordinator.
GENERAL SUPERVISOR: Superintendent of Schools
JOB GOAL: To assist in providing safe transportation of all students to and from school.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Bus Assistant will provide care of during their transportation to and from school and to assist the Bus Driver in maintaining safety on the bus.
- Assist disabled students in getting On and Off the bus.
- Operate a hydraulic lift for wheel chairs, fasten securely in place.
- Maintain discipline and report to school authorities and unusual episodes.
- Maintain safe environment on the bus by keeping aisles clear and monitoring student behavior
- Attend to emergency situations in accordance with procedures, administer medication and first aid, as necessary.
- Assist the bus driver in conducting evacuation drills.
- Clean and sanitize the bus following illnesses, handle bodily fluids according to established health precautions.
- Attend the Transportation Pupil Bus Driver Institute as required by State Statute.
- Meet, instruct and sponsor co-curricular activities as assigned by the unit supervisor.
- Understand that payment can only by made when services are rendered and when students(s) attend school.
- Perform other reasonable tasks pertinent to related duties.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Term of Employment will be established by the board of Education on an annual basis, through the adoption of the school calendar.
SALARY: Salary to be established by the Board of Education on an annual Basis, through the adoption of the salary schedules.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Provisions of the Board’s adopted policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
