Job Title: School Bus Operator

Location: Dishchii'bikoh Community School, Cibecue, Arizona

Job Summary:

Safely transport students over scheduled routes and/or special excursions by driving a school bus and/or van.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Drive school buses and/or vans to transport students safely over scheduled routes and/or special excursions (field trips, athletic events).
2. Assist students and other passengers to ensure safe loading and unloading from buses during normal and emergency transport.
3. Provide first aid and medical assistance as needed to address student health concerns.
4. Identify potential safety risks and take prompt action to mitigate them.
5. Teach students about safe bus riding and evacuation procedures.
6. Oversee student behavior and manage their conduct while on the bus.
7. Foster open communication with school staff to report incidents and share important information.
8. Keep accurate records of bus usage and document any issues that arise.
9. Maintain the cleanliness and sanitization of school buses.
10. Participate in ongoing training to enhance driving skills and stay certified.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree not required, but high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• A valid Arizona driver’s license with a clean driving record is essential.
• Compliance with school bus driver certification standards is mandatory.
• Knowledge of Arizona traffic laws and regulations is necessary.
• Exceptional driving abilities and stress management skills are required.
• Effective communication with diverse groups, including students, parents, colleagues, and district officials.
• Route navigation, schedule management, and familiarity with local roadways and schools.
• Punctuality, reliability, and adaptability to variable driving assignments.
• Physical stamina to perform tasks like pulling, reaching, pushing, bending, and walking.
• Successful completion of a bus driver agility test.
