Job Summary

The DRC is seeking a Trainer to support its mission of empowering individuals through conflict resolution services and training. This role involves leading and co-facilitating training, developing curriculum based on adult learning theory, and providing training and coaching to community members, volunteer mediators, and staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

Training and Facilitation

  • Organizes, leads, and co-leads DRC trainings (in-person and online) assigned by the Training Manager according to adult learning theory, and provides a high-impact, interactive environment.
  • Collaborates with the training team to support the development and maintenance of training curricula and solutions.
  • Selects and develops teaching aids such as training manuals, reference tools, activities and exercises.
  • Supports trainee understanding by recognizing when a group or individual is lost and needs more attention, and provides exercises, activities and visual aids.
  • Provides feedback and coaching as part of the learning experience
  • Assist with presenting, coaching, and demonstrating at in-person and online trainings.
  • Lead facilitations and/or support facilitations as needed.


Training Coordination and Support

  • Contributes training support, including training tech, space management, materials preparation, volunteer scheduling, and training calendar scheduling, in collaboration with the Training Manager.
  • Monitors contracts for custom training clients and works in collaboration with the training team, executive director, and business manager to steer contracts through to completion.
  • Communicates and coordinates potential training with clients and participants.
  • Responds to client inquiries, consults with clients/participants on training needs via intakes for assigned trainings.
  • Communicates effectively and proactively with subject matter experts, business partners, and design team.
  • Coordinates training participant registration lists, confirmation notices, and post training communications to clients for assigned training.
  • Maintains training files for assigned training (e.g., agendas, participant lists).


Team Membership

  • Participate in staff meetings, collaborative decision-making, goal setting, and organization representation.
  • Ensure that essential role functions are documented clear for role coverage and succession planning.
  • Track and report on operations plan goals relevant to the position.\


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Three years of education or work experience in training with increasing responsibility at public, non-profit or private sector organizations. Education and experience requirements may be met through formal education, work experience or other training or certification.
  • 40-hour professional mediation training; may be completed after hire.


DESIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Understanding and commitment to the philosophy and mission of the DRC.
  • Experience with training, teaching, or large group facilitation.
  • Certified Mediator with experience; this may be volunteer or paid experience.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Familiarity with curriculum design using adult learning theory.
  • Outstanding public speaking and group facilitation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to plan, manage time, and multitask effectively.
  • Strong computer literacy, including online video conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel) and cloud-based file sharing.
  • Creative and effective decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build and lead collaborative training teams and work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Willingness to work a flexible work schedule including some weekend and evening work.
  • Understanding and commitment to the mission and service goals of the DRC.
