· Hybrid/Remote must be within driving distance to Seattle, WA

Do you dream of shaping the future of space travel? Join a trailblazing Seattle-based space startup, solving the critical challenge of in-space mobility alongside a visionary founder who has collaborated with tech titans like Elon Musk and Paul Allen.

Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Testing Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our satellite propulsion systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in vacuum and environmental testing, along with expertise in fluid systems and data acquisition.

Responsibilities:

  • Vacuum & Environmental Testing: Lead the design and execution of vacuum tests for satellite propulsion systems, including environmental tests (e.g., thermal, vibration, proof, leak) in accordance with SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-1540, or MIL-STD-810.
  • Fluid System Expertise: Oversee and evaluate pressurized systems (up to 6000 psi), cryogenic systems, hydraulic systems, and actuated components in propulsion hardware. Manage the design, installation, and troubleshooting of valves, regulators, actuators, servo-valves, and other fluid components used in space and propulsion systems.
  • Instrumentation & Data Acquisition: Integrate and configure sensors (pressure transducers, accelerometers, etc.) to capture key parameters, and oversee the implementation of data acquisition systems and automation for test execution. Perform data processing and analysis to ensure performance compliance.
  • Test Planning & Execution: Develop comprehensive test plans, including procedures for system-level and component-level validation, data collection, and analysis. Execute tests in a controlled environment, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and industry standards.
  • Collaboration & Reporting: Work closely with engineering teams, both internally and externally, to provide technical guidance, review test requirements, and contribute to design and operational improvements. Document and report on test results and anomalies, providing technical insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Precision Clean Systems: Ensure that all hardware is precision-cleaned and meets contamination control standards before testing, especially for cryogenic and high-pressure systems.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements in test methodologies, tools, and equipment, contributing to long-term testing strategy and innovation within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in testing engineering, with a focus on vacuum and environmental testing.
  • Strong understanding of fluid systems, including pressurized, cryogenic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency in data acquisition systems, instrumentation, and data analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to testing (e.g., SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-1540, MIL-STD-810).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with satellite propulsion systems or related industries.
  • Certification in relevant testing standards or methodologies.
