What are the responsibilities and job description for the Harvest Cellar Hand position at Distinguished Vineyards?
We have an exciting opportunity for Harvest Cellar Hands to join the Argyle Winery production team! Reporting to the Cellar Master, this role is responsible for being dedicated to help craft both sparkling and still wines from Dundee and Emola-Amity Hills areas for the 2025 harvest. This role is based in Newberg, OR and is a full-time, non-exempt, seasonal (temporary) position, working a variable schedule that includes overtime and extended hours between June - November (start month is flexible).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Prior harvest cellar experience and forklift experience is preferred,
but not mandatory - Experience with cellar procedures and understanding work orders
is preferred, but not mandatory - Must have a basic knowledge and understanding of the winemaking process
- Works well in a team setting as well as autonomously at times
- A strong attention to detail and ability to execute tasks in a timely
manner - Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs and stand for long periods of time, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to work long hours at peak times (up to 12 hours a day and 6
days a week) - Dependability to show up to work every day and complete the tasks
assigned - Ability to work in cold and rainy weather
Must be able to provide U.S. Work Authorization without current or future sponsorship.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Processing Machine picked fruit and making additions to must
- Managing fruit intake, including receiving, stacking, destemming and pressing
- Rackings, barrel downs, and barrel consolidations
- Cleaning and Sanitation of winery and all winery equipment
- Punch downs and pumpovers
- Operation of crush equipment, pumps, elevator, and press
- Forklift driving including bin unloading and dumping, barrel stacking, etc.
- Drain and Pressing finished wines
- Safely enter Confined Spaces to perform digouts, and clean presses and tank
- These daily tasks will be performed around a core of cleaning duties, preceded
and followed by more cleaning; wash, rinse, repeat.
