What are the responsibilities and job description for the Harvest Enologist - MacRostie position at Distinguished Vineyards?
We have an exciting opportunity for a Harvest Enologist to join the MacRostie Winery production team for 2025 Harvest! Reporting to the Assistant Winemaker, we are seeking out an experienced and talented individual to serve as our Harvest Enologist at our Healdsburg facility and work alongside the winemaking team. Our Harvest Enologist Intern plays a key role in the wine production process, specifically during the harvest season. The purpose of this internship is to support the enologist (wine scientist or expert) and winemaking team with various tasks related to grape harvest, fermentation, and wine production. This role is based in Healdsburg and is a full-time, temporary non-exempt position, working 40 hours a week July through November tentatively.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Prior experience with lab procedures and basic analyses
(titrations, pH measurements, etc.) - A college degree in Viticulture and Enology or other related
science field. Students in a related field working on their
degree should feel encouraged to apply as well. - Experience with additions and inoculations are preferred but
not required - Must be able to provide U.S. Work Authorization without current or future sponsorship.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Operations - Lab (90%)
- This individual will work closely with our full-time Sr. Enologist to ensure that necessary sampling and
analysis is being performed accurately. - Perform pre-bottling analysis, QC checks during bottling, grape sampling from vineyards throughout
Sonoma County, work with and independently in the lab measuring Brix/Temperatures of
fermentations daily, performing daily berry, juice, and wine analyses. - Lab data entry into Microsoft Excel and Vintrace winery software, etc.
Operations - Cellar (10%)
- The individual will also be asked to assist with cellar operations as needed with cap management,
inoculations and additions, wine transfers, etc. - These daily tasks will be performed around a core of cleaning duties, preceded and followed by more
cleaning.
