D19 is hiring for a Medical Records Technician-PRN to assist tasks relating to records management.
Located in South Central Virginia, District 19 Community Services Board is located in an area rich with history and full of vibrant culture. The area is close to several colleges and universities and is convenient to many local and state parks and trails as well as metropolitan areas. District 19 CSB covers over 1900 sq. miles of service area, including urban, suburban and rural areas. District 19 CSB serves Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Emporia, Greensville, Hopewell, Petersburg, Prince George, Surry and Sussex. Our main location, where our Medical Records Tech-PRN position is located, is in Old Town Petersburg. Old Towne Petersburg is a charismatic place that has drawn many to live in historic Petersburg and even more to visit to dine, shop, enjoy cultural events, observe its historic architecture, and visit its many historic sites. Old Towne is an inviting culinary and shopping destination, with almost all of its restaurants and shops in historic structures and ran by small business owners.
Review and validate medical records requests and releases from individuals requesting records.
Assist D19 providers with processing requests for protected health information in a timely manner following confidentiality regulations and medical records laws.
Gather and submit records to requestor within 15 days of request, or as required by regulations.
Organizing and maintaining the Medical Records Storage Room.
Process records targeted for destruction and coordinate the records destruction process per LVA guidelines.
Serves as a back-up to QI Supervisor and Project Manager for reporting serious incidents to DBHDS and MCOs/Magellan as needed.
Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding medical records management to include HIPAA, LVA, DMAS, DBHDS, and other regulatory agencies.
Knowledge of electronic health records system. Skills to include Strong organizational skills; meticulous attention to detail; word processing, data entry, spreadsheets and database systems; excellent written and verbal communication skills; recordkeeping skills.
Skills in navigating and organizing electronic and paper health records.
Ability to read, understand, and implement agency policies/procedures and state/federal regulations related to medical records and confidentiality; to follow instructions; maintain high degree of confidentiality; organize medical records; exercise sound judgment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency and non-agency staff; be flexible, particularly around work environment; work independently.
Ability to perform detailed repetitious tasks over a long period of time.
High School Diploma required.
At least one year of experience in medical records required.
This position is a Grade H-N2 with a starting hourly rate of $24.95 per hour; hourly rate is negotiable.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will often sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach above their head.
Lifting required, up to 60 pounds, and a hand truck will be available. Pushes or pulls up to 150 pounds.
Time will be spent in a storage room which is dusty and not temperature controlled.
Periodic travel to D19 clinics in localities to include Dinwiddie, Prince George, Colonial Heights, Emporia, Surry, and Sussex
Position requires valid Driver’s License in state of residence with a point balance of -6 or higher, and an extensive pre-employment background check to include fingerprints and drug screening.
