What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Information Officer position at District 21 District Attorney's Office?
The Public Information Officer manages the flow of information from the District Attorney’s Office to the media and the public at large. The PIO is responsible for communicating important public safety and case information across many platforms. The ideal candidate will have extensive interpersonal communication skills, writing skills and experience, and experience in social media management. This is someone who is able to understand the news cycle as well as the criminal justice system.
Responsibilities
-Communicate effectively with members of the public and media regarding cases and office initiatives
- Monitor and manage social media accounts
- Monitor and manage the office website
- Attend events on behalf of the office
- Respond to information requests
- Maintain positive working relationships with members of the media, law enforcement, judges, attorneys, elected officials, and government staff
Knowledge & Skills
- Extensive interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to write articles for publication, press releases, and social media content
- Public speaking skills
- Excellent judgement in releasing information
- Ability to learn and explain the criminal court system as it relates to the District Attorney’s role and responsibilities
- Proficiency in Canva or another graphic design software
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work product
- Excellent organization and time management skills
