What are the responsibilities and job description for the Juvenile Diversion Coordinator position at District Attorney's Office?
The Diversion Program incorporates prevention, intervention, and advocacy services in a comprehensive program tailored to each juvenile participant. Diversion is highly successful because it provides the opportunity for young people to take responsibility for and understand the consequences of their actions.
1. Investigate juvenile cases for Juvenile Diversion eligibility in cooperation with the assigned Deputy District Attorney.
2. Gather information on the juvenile and create a contract.
3. Conduct an intake interview for each juvenile with their parents or guardians.
4. Maintain files and statistics on program.
5. Act as a liaison between the juvenile and their victim(s) by making proper notifications, collecting restitution, and monitoring any other contact between parties.
6. Supervise juveniles in the program based on the parameters of their contract. This could be direct monitoring of activities by JV Div. Coor or JV Div. Coor. monitoring progress of the referral agency's involvement with juvenile.
7. Attend regular meetings for CPT and CET as well as other meetings regarding community collaboration in regards to juveniles.
8. Conduct regular meetings with juvenile.
9. Make appropriate referrals for juveniles in the community and monitor the progress of juveniles.
10. Attend any event required of the coordinator when necessary for each juvenile.
11. Act as a liaison for the program for all agencies in the community.
12. Conduct exit interview, reviewing contract completion and recommending unsuccessful termination where appropriate.
13. Participate in juvenile justice trainings.
14. Perform community outreach and provide community education on issues that juveniles face.
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of interviewing techniques sufficient to be able to elicit information.
Skill in demonstrating client advocacy practices and maintaining appropriate personal and professional boundaries with clients.
