Job Summary
This employee will be a key member of the Miscellaneous team, which is tasked with presorting, pricing, packing, and redistributing donated miscellaneous items to the SVdP thrift stores around Dane County.
Essential Duties
- Check items for quality and resale-ability
- Maintain production quotas in one of several miscellaneous workstations, including:
- Presorting misc. to identify unsellable items or those belonging in another department, preparing items for pricing.
- Pricing misc. items, identifying specialty or collectible items
- Carefully packing misc. items to palletize and prepare for shipment to stores
- Perform any tasks needed to keep work area neat and orderly/restock production supplies as needed
- Able to work cooperatively in a team setting
- Knowledgeable about items belonging to the Misc department and their resale value and quality
- Flexible with job changes, willing and able to do other tasks when requested
- Capable of making speedy and accurate judgments of misc. items based on quality control information received during training or current needs of the stores
- Help maintain cleanliness of Processing Center, perform assigned cleaning duties
- Support the effort to create a more inclusive workplace environment

Daily assignments will rotate based on staffing and operational needs. An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. Full-time, 40 hours a week
Rotating weekdays off based on group assignment. 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts
Nonexempt, Hourly Rate of pay is $18.08 to start with an increase to $18.83 at six months.

This position requires frequent communication and assistance among numerous departments. Therefore, this individual must:
- Be able to work independently and adapt to ever-changing needs, job assignments and priorities.
- Basic knowledge of household items and resale value
- Capable of making speedy and accurate judgments of appliance items based on quality control information received during training or current needs of the stores
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures, ranges of ability, ethnicities, and races. OR is willing to communicate and interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultures, varying abilities, ethnicities, and races.
Essential Requirements
- Keep management informed of safety concerns, problems, supplies needed, and whatever is important to the smooth running of the Processing Center
- Must have the ability to appropriately prioritize daily and immediate tasks
- Must have the ability to perform any duties assigned by management to help the overall performance of the Miscellaneous/Book Department and Processing Center.
- Demonstrated success working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Continual learner, willing to seek additional opportunities to gain experience, knowledge and skills. Must be able to fulfill job duties/responsibilities with minimal direction.
Physical Demands & Qualifications
The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job:
- Employee must have the ability to maintain professional, patient and courteous interactions with a diverse base of customers, donors, clients and other SVdP staff
- Employee must frequently stand, walk, talk and hear, use hands to handle or touch product, tools, or controls.
- Stand at workstation for 3 hours between breaks for 10-hour shifts
- Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lift/move up to 50lbs with assistance from equipment or another person.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Employee must be able to follow instructions and work autonomously on assigned job duties
- Employee must be able to work assigned shifts consistently and reliably
