SUMMARY: To assist the Vision Services department (including the Teacher(s) of the Visually Impaired and Orientation & Mobility Specialist) to ensure the department runs smoothly and the providers have necessary resources to perform their job.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in planning activities/work assignments for individual students.
- Assists the teacher in carrying out the activities/work assignments for individual students, e.g., individuals and small groups.
- Follow a lesson plan, chart or guide created by teacher.
- Prepares the day’s lessons by assembling materials necessary for the daily plan.
- Consults frequently with the teacher about the needs, suggestions, questions, problems and progress of the student.
- When in a classroom setting, will help students and answer appropriate questions.
- Assists the teacher in evaluating the progress of students.
- Responds to new ideas, methods and suggestions from teachers.
- Demonstrates professional and flexible attitude/rapport with other staff members, administration and parents/guardians.
- Demonstrates appropriate interaction with the students in the classroom.
- Maintain records concerning his/her student’s work with teacher direction.
- Assists the teacher with preparation of instructional materials.
- Attends district in-service workshops for the motor team/vision department.
- Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
- Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Other job related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must provide documentation of the following requirements:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- AA degree OR 60 credit hours of college OR Successful completion of Dysart approved exam
- Experience in working with school age children.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
- Valid CPR First Aid certification.
SKILL/KNOWLEDGE:
- To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

- Working knowledge of Braille is preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of Assistive Technology is preferred but not required.
- Competent in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and Google Sheets/Docs.
- Communication Skills.
- Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
- Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to interpret an assortment of instructions provided in various forms.
- Ability to solve appropriate issues with little or no assistance.

Positions in this class typically require activities such as sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Light Work: This job may involve exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed in an indoor, office environment.
