What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Officer position at District of Columbia Housing Authority?
Identifies each emergency at the housing facility such as floods, fires, and other hazardous conditions which could affect the safety of authorized families, individual guests, staff and property; notifies the appropriate Housing Management Office and notifies the DCHA Command Center or supervisor of such conditions if the Housing Management Office is closed;
Screens families and individuals authorized to enter and exit DCHA buildings at secured and controlled entrances and exits; ensures all persons entering the building display appropriate identification;
Identifies and ensures proper identification of commercial visitors that are authorized and may have legitimate business or appointments with employees, resident families and individuals.
Logs the date, time and destination of all visitors entering and departing the public housing facility or DCHA Central Office;
Prepares daily incident, infraction and other problem reports covering activities and events occurring during the course of a shift; ensures proper documentation of the events are recorded and reported to the supervisor;
Contacts authorized resident families and individuals by telephone or intercom to verify all incoming visitors;
Provides information and responds to questions within the scope of expertise from the public and employees in a courteous and professional manner;
Assists authorized residents with gaining entrance into their locked apartments;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements :
Education and / or Experience
High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution of learning, and one (1) year related security experience (not required but preferred).
It is a critical job requirement that the incumbent of this position successfully pass an initial and annual renewal process administered by the Security Officers Management Branch (SOMB). Also, the incumbent is required to submit to all licensure requirements, i.e., thorough background / reference check and, drug and alcohol tests.
It is important to note that this position "is not" empowered with any law enforcement authority or powers.
The incumbent must :
Pass licensed Security Officer test in the District of Columbia.
Maintain certification by the Security Officers Management Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Successfully complete routine training as required by DCHA.
Comply with DCHA's standards for excellence in customer service.
