Job Title: Grounds Foreman
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred;
- Current valid New Mexico Driver’s License required;
- 5 years experience preferred grounds maintenance;
- 2 years in a lead or supervisor role;
- Current NM JS license Irrigation;
- Current NM Backflow Certification; and
- Current NM Pesticide applicators License 3A, 3B.
Skills Required:
- Methods, materials, and equipment used in grounds, landscaping and irrigation;
- Experience with skid steers, backhoes, forklifts and tractors;
- Operation of up to 26’ trailers;
- Plants adapted to the climate with regard for those varieties suitable for school grounds;
- Principles of training and supervision;
- Operation of a computer and assigned software;
- Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures;
- Appropriate safety precautions and procedures;
- Proficient oral and written communication skills;
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy;
- Record-keeping and report preparation techniques; and
- Safely and proficiently use tools and equipment common to the grounds trade.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Supervises and evaluates the work of assigned personnel in the grounds department;
- Conducts training programs for assigned grounds crews for improved performance;
- Assists in interviewing and selecting grounds personnel;
- Assists in planning and scheduling grounds-related work to be done;
- Inspects and ensures quality control of completed grounds work per established procedures;
- Prepares, maintains and submits records, reports and files related to assigned activities;
- Assists with performing a variety of skilled maintenance work as needed;
- Evaluates and assesses materials and equipment needed for projects and assigns tasks;
- Operates a variety of assigned grounds equipment;
- Utilizes computer and assigned software;
- Drives a vehicle and trailer to conduct work;
- Reports maintenance concerns to the appropriate supervisor;
- Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations;
- Performs other duties as assigned by Director or Manager of Grounds; and
- Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the District during the term of employment.
Work Hours: Work hours will be in accordance with hours determined by the School District and
the individual schools within parameters of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Accountability
Reports to: Grounds Managers, to include Grounds Director, and Executive Director of Facilities.
Supervises: Grounds staff.
Evaluated by: Grounds Managers, to include Grounds Director, and Executive Director of Facilities.
